How to import plant from Thailand?

We are Thailand orchid nursery, laboratory and plant exporter. We have been in this business for more than 20 years

Thailand has many tropical variety plants. We are the home of most beautiful exotic plants. They are unique and colorful. You can see the plant shop and nursery all over the countries. The most popular plant market is Chatuchak market. It is located in Bangkok. You can go there by Taxi, sky train or subway. Before buying plant, you should ask seller that they could provide you the phytosanitary certificate or not (CITES may require in some varieties).  This certificate is required for shipping plant internationally.

Phytosanitary/ CITES certificate

For the Phytosanitary/ CITES certificate, the seller will be the one who provide it to you. For the process, they will send your plants to the inspector in Bangkok, it will take only 1 day. We can not apply them on the weekend, some countries require special inspection that will take 2-3 more days (The requested inspection will be listed on the import permit).

Plant Import permits

If you buy plant in bulk quantity. It may require in some countries. Please contact your authorities for the details and follow their regulations otherwise you may loss all the plants. For USA, the import permit is not required for under 12 plants.

To getting the permit: You should know the plant scientific name, planting material which the nursery used (In Thailand, we mostly use soil and coconut husk as a planting material) and the arrival date. All your desired plant should be listed in the permit.

Plant should be clean and free from pest and disease

Thai plant nurseries are mostly open system. Please ask them to clean the plant and change the planting material. It should be pest free and no disease. The plants have to be bare root in some countries.

You can pack them in your suitcase. Cover them with paper. Newspaper is recommended. You can easily find them in nearby convenience store. It will absorb the excess water and preventing them from getting rot.

If you don’t want to bring the plant with you. It can be shipped to your destination by the courier or Air cargo service.
